Colorectal Cancer

Worldwide, colorectal cancer (CRC) is the 3rd most diagnosed cancer and estimated 1.9 million people were diagnosed in 2020 resulting in ~915 thousand deaths. In the US, CRC is the 4th most common cancer and 4th most common cause of cancer deaths with ~126,000 new cases diagnosed in 2020 (the latest year data is available) and ~52,000 deaths. CRC incidence and mortality are highest in N. America, W. Europe and Oceania but rates are now rising in East Asia and Eastern Europe, in part due to changes to a more Westernized diet and physical activity level.

Colonoscopy is the gold standard for CRC screening/ prevention in the US and the only prophylactic approach to colon cancer screening by removing polyps which may in the future develop into CRC). AI Lumen augments the value of colonoscopy by increasing the amount of the colon lining visible to the colonoscopist.
